Kitchenaid 5 Door Fridge Pros And Cons
- Design in stainless steel with contrast
- Has the unique five-door layout
- Temperature-controlled drawer
- Contrasting stainless steel design
Also, be sure that nothing presses onto the door from the inside or you will get condensate buildup from the icebox. This will cause moisture to leak onto the board in the produce draw (which is beneath it) and cause the drawer to fail.
This won’t trigger a door open alarm but will not allow the door seal to seal. They should have put better wheels on the bottom for ease of cleaning behind the unit. Aside from that, we are very happy with it.
- Fridges run a little warm with default settings.
- Part of the manufacturer’s new black stainless steel collection, this French door fridge also debuts the first five-door design sold in the U.S.
This French door refrigerator is part of the new black stainless steel collection by the manufacturer. It also marks the debut of the first five-door French door in Stainless steel design in the U.S.
Instead of a single temperature-controlled drawer above the freezer, the KRMF706EBS sports two, so you can store your kids’ snacks and hors d’oeuvres for your dinner party.
This fridge is an organization’s dream come true with a herb tray, a water dispenser capable of following instructions, and adjustable storage. It’s the best fridge we have ever seen with its smooth, shiny finish and many doors.
You can also choose a traditional stainless exterior. The KRMF706ESS is available for sale for $3,419
- Total (cu. Ft.): 25.8 / Fridge: 18.15 / Freezer: 7.61
- Preserva Food Care System
- 2 Soft-Close Drawers
Although the Kitchen Aid KRMF706EBS (MSRP 3,999) is a stunning visual, it also has some drawbacks. All the highs and lows were captured in our tests.
Our sensors detected that the temperature was warm in the main French door refrigerator compartment. The average temperature was 39.06degF at the top, 38.17degF mid-range, and 40.14degF below the crispers.
It is not terrible, but it is still too warm for our taste. If you have this fridge, turn the thermostat down to 36 degrees F instead of the recommended 37 degrees F to get optimal results.
Temperatures fluctuated on average by +-0.32degF over time. This is not as stable as high-end models, but it should be enough to have no noticeable effect.
The freezer was a different story. The average temperatures at the top and bottom were respectively -5.03degF or -1.81degF.
The refrigerator has a place in the bottom with a sliding glass door to store eggs. One of the pull-out drawers has 5 different temperature settings depending on how you use it. The freezer has the main section and then two pull-out drawers above it.
The chances of freezing burn are minimized by having average shifts in time of only +-0.34degF (a flattering figure for frozen foods storage).
A Suave Fridge For Your Modern Kitchen
For months, we talk about the features, doo-dads, and ways it will make our life better. When it comes to new appliances, maybe not so much. But honestly, it’s time to get excited.
Enter the first-ever 5-door Refrigerator by Kitchen Aid — a way to revolutionize food storage and ultimately the way you eat.
Being the first-ever 5 doors refrigerator, it is safe to say that one of the most unique features is just how many doors it has.
Most refrigerator simply has two doors, one for the fridge portion and the other for the freezer. Five doors are revolutionary and allow you to quickly and easily access specific areas of the refrigerator without having to open one main door.
People love this refrigerator stainless steel for its durability and professional appearance. People also dislike stainless steel because it feels cold and unpersonal.
KitchenAid, along with Samsung and LG, has released a darkened stainless version to appeal to those who want the best of both. These appliances’ exteriors are stainless steel but have been chemically treated to get a darker color.
This KitchenAid’s main distinguishing factor is the black stainless finish. It’s certainly a standout product whose name speaks for itself.
The sleek, dark finish is further enhanced by the new handle design of the manufacturer. It features a textured silver-diamond pattern and bright red KitchenAid logos at each end. The fridge’s cylindrical handles provide a solid look and feel.
You’ll find a grey-tinted interior when you open the doors. KitchenAid provided plenty of bright white LEDs to counter the darker colors, including some under-light shelves. The door bins are placed in mirrored trays, while crispers have grips that match their handles.
This freezer has a similar look with mirrored edges on its sliding drawers and more LED lights for better visibility. There are also more grey-tinted plastic lining walls. Although it won’t be for everyone, it is a cohesive and impressive overall aesthetic.
However, the lure of shiny stainless steel got the best of me and alas…we bought 3 new appliances!
In the first year of ownership, parts and labor for all manufacturer defects or failed parts will be covered, as long as you’re not abusing the fridge.
For the second through fifth years, KitchenAid covers parts and labor relating to both the cavity lining (the grey interior walls) in the fridge and freezer, as well as the sealed refrigeration system—compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer, and connecting tubing.
Finally, KitchenAid will continue to cover the sealed refrigeration system for an additional five years.
Wire harness for the deli drawer rubs through or the wires bend and break. Fans quit. Circuit boards fail. This whole thing is just poorly designed, or maybe designed to fail.
One example of the cheapness and poor design of this appliance is the interior fans which are literally computer fans. They are not meant to run in this moist cold environment. We probably will have to buy a new fridge to replace this barely 3-year-old fridge that looks new and is very nicely styled.
Lots Of Drawers And Lots Of Options
KitchenAid has all the basics you would expect from a high-end fridge. An ice maker with Max Ice for accelerated cube formation, a through-the-door water dispenser, and a Sabbath setting. There’s more…
The most striking aspect is that the manufacturer has included two drawers in the main fridge compartment.
This drawer is ideal for those who like to buy lots.
The left-hand drawer offers more versatility, with five temperature settings: Cold Drinks/Meat, Fish, Meat/Fish, Greens/Herbs, Cheese, Deli/Cheese, Thaw/ Marinate. The left drawer is flexible with five temperature settings, while the right drawer serves as a third produce crisper.
The adjustable divider gives you more organization options. Each drawer has a soft-close feature that prevents the drawers from closing.
You’ll find the Herb Tray in a small, clear plastic container. You’ll find an interior of angled plastic inside the lid.
You can use it by adding a little water to the container and then adding your parsley. The idea is that the stems can be left in the water while the leaves, which are angled away from moisture, will stay dry and fresh.
The fridge also features KitchenAid’s Measured Fill water dispensing system. You can choose the exact amount of water you want to pour for each recipe. When the water filter needed to be replaced, I could not find the product and could not get the old filter out.
After a $75 service call, I learned that the filter model numbers had changed and the instructions for removing the old filter in the manual were wrong.
To purchase a water filter subscription, you must create an account or sign in to your existing account. Your account allows you to track order history and provides for faster, easier purchasing and customer assistance. Once your account is created, you will be returned to checkout to complete your purchase.
The recessed water filter takes up a negligible amount of space and is very easy to replace.
The crisper drawer in the main KitchenAid fridge compartment was not only beautiful but also smooth to slide. This is a disappointing model at this price.
Our test materials lost on average 0.2 grams of water per hour overtime. We prefer to see a loss of half that amount. This is even more frustrating with the KitchenAid, which lacks any adjustable humidity control.
Efficiency and appliance life extension. Having more doors helps improve the efficiency of the refrigerator and helps extend the life of the compressor. As an added bonus, your food is less likely to spoil from constant temperature fluctuations.
LED lighting easily lights up the refrigerator and freezer and will never need replacing, making maintenance on this beauty a breeze. Two of the fridge shelves feature under-the-trim LED lighting, adding to interior visibility.
The refrigerator portion features two pantry doors and two drawers, the latter of which offer a soft closing movement and provide a level of convenience that you never knew you were missing.
Style Over Substance
This KitchenAid may not be the best choice if you are looking for an enormous fridge. It’s still a great fridge, but the unique way it divides the interior space has its drawbacks.
First, you will find less space in the main refrigerator compartment and its drawers than a traditional French door.
Although we prefer the organizational benefits of the five-door layout, some people may find it too cramped. This is especially true if you love large items such as rotisserie chickens and multiple gallons of milk and juice.
Fixed crispers were no better than fridges costing thousands less. They also retained moisture to a lesser degree than refrigerator that cost thousands more. The upper compartment was also warmer.
This last bit is simple enough to fix. Just lower the temperature by one or two degrees to get optimal results.
The freezer was the highlight of this five-door. The freezer was the ideal environment for freezing food storage because it had cool and stable temperatures.
This is excellent news for those who love to cook or shop in bulk and want to keep the freezer burn to a minimum.
Average freezing times were observed in this model. The freezer took approximately 1 hour and 24 min for the sensor-laden, room-temperature food replacement to reach 32degF. It was neither great nor terrible, but it is just the way it is.
Although this fridge might be unique in appearance, the warranty is very familiar. As long as the fridge is not misused, the warranty covers parts and labor for any manufacturer defect or failure within the first year.
KitchenAid covers labor and parts for the second to fifth year.
KitchenAid will cover sealed refrigeration systems for another five years. The coverage is limited to parts; labor costs could be high.
The KitchenAid’s door storage space is quite tight due to so many drawers and additional bits. We prefer the layout, but it does reduce overall capacity.
You’ll find your usual assortment of adjustable shelves, drawers, and a hidden nook just in front of the crispers in the upper fridge compartment.
The right side has a lot of storage, while the left side has a little bit due to the door-mounted Ice Maker. We combined the fresh food capacity and the drawer to get a better idea of the space. This gave us 11.18 cubic feet.
The overall capacity is sacrificed for the sake of organization, though—a layout we prefer. In the upper fridge compartment, you’ve got your standard assortment of adjustable shelves and drawer, in addition to a little “hidden” nook right in front of the crispers.
There’s a decent amount of door storage on the right, but not much on the left due to the door-mounted ice maker. For the sake of our measurements, we lumped the independent drawers in with our fresh food capacity, which totaled 11.18 usable cubic feet of space.
The freezer also prioritizes organization over raw capacity. It has three sliding drawer in place of the two-drawer setup. There is also a frozen pizza caddie right inside the door. All this adds up to 4.94 cubic feet of usable frozen food storage.
A fridge with 16 cu. It was pretty significant, with a standard rate of $0.09/kWh. This will result in $59.23 annually in electricity costs. Similar exterior dimensions to the fridges below use less energy.
In Addition, since August the ‘frig’ has been diagnosed (with the assistance of the KitchenAid technical team & their authorized repair service person) with needing the face board, deli drawer, and freezer drawer replaced.
Unfortunately, we’ve not had the opportunity to try the technical repairs due to changing diagnoses coupled with the need to build the new freezer drawer.
No Black Marks For Black Stainless
With its five-door KitchenAid KRMF706EBS fridge, the unique design is distinguished by its easy-to-use drawers and distinctive look. This fridge stands out from all others with its black stainless finish.
Although performance could be better, it is still a powerful appliance that will make a statement in your kitchen. The KRMF706EBS will not disappoint, whether you like the idea of more control over your food or want a new look for your kitchen. Check out KitchenAid’s Where To Buy page to find this product.
You can also get this fridge in regular stainless for a few hundred bucks at significant retailers if you love the design but don’t want it to match all your matching appliances.
Should you upgrade your kitchen to black stainless steel in 2018? The answer is: YES. What’s more, an herb tray, a water dispenser that can follow instructions, and plenty of adjustable storage make this fridge an organizational dream come true.
How long does KitchenAid’s built-in refrigerator last?
Between 15-17 years
A KitchenAid refrigerator has a life expectancy of between 15-17 years.
Why are KitchenAid refrigerators out of stock everywhere?
There are a few factors that have contributed to the supply chain disruption in the appliance industry. While they may not be directly due to COVID-19, they can be attributed to the current pandemic purgatory. Due to COVID-19-related supply chain disruptions, major appliances are not in stock.
Is KitchenAid considered high-end?
KitchenAid is a well-known mid-brand that offers a wide range of products, from basic to high-end. KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and KitchenAid are high-end Whirlpool brands.
First off, KitchenAid includes all the basic features you’d expect from a high-end fridge: An ice maker with a Max Ice option for accelerated cube creation, through-the-door water, an ice dispenser, and a Sabbath mode.
A review in the United States is: I have owned this refrigerator for 18 months. It is a beautiful machine, but the beauty and functionalilty are far overshadowed by the worst ice maker ever. That makes us feel good when choosing this refrigerator.
Are KitchenAid refrigerators made in the USA?
Whirlpool also owns KitchenAid, another American refrigerator brand. They manufacture high-quality refrigerator in a variety of factories across North America.
Could a refrigerator change the way you eat?
Well, with technology made to extend the life of produce, its Perserva Food Care System, and a dedicated herb storage compartment, we think so.
Plus, the drawers are designed to roll out smoothly even when fully loaded. It’s the small things that can make a huge difference sometimes. Two is better than one.
This streamlined masterpiece also features two separate cooling systems, one for the fridge and one for the freezer, plus it comes with a FreshFlow Air Filter to reduce odors.
The two soft-close drawers are located directly beneath the pantry doors. The left drawer can be used to store a variety of items with temperature control that boasts five presets, including deli/cheese, fish/meats, drinks, herbs/greens, and thaw/marinate.
This uniquely versatile, platinum interior refrigerator offers 5 doors, including 2 soft-close drawers, to deliver optimized storage.
This refrigerator also features the Preserva Food Care System which uses two independent cooling systems to help keep food fresh longer, while under-shelf LED lighting beautifully displays the food below for greater visibility. 5-Door Configuration is a KitchenAid innovation and industry first Preserva Food Care System.
That was a good experience. The refrigerator was delivered and set up as promised. This is an impressive refrigerator. It’s spacious and quiet. I especially love the soft-close drawers and the LED lights on the edges of the shelves inside the refrigerator.
The door controls are easy to operate with light pressure. Because we are on a reverse osmosis system, we did have to install a booster pump to make the ice maker/water dispenser work more efficiently.
The KitchenAid 5 Door Fridge is one of the most best-selling refrigerators on this year’s market. It has many differences to make you have a great choice, and it would be a perfect addition to any kitchen.
