Experts say that keeping your refrigerator at the right temperature is good for your health and overall health. What is the secret to this? Amazingly, your fridge will not become contaminated by bacteria if it is leveled from the inside. It also makes your fridge look better. For more information, please refer to the article.
Why Refrigerators Need To Be Level
Unlevel refrigerators are not only an eyesore but also a hassle. They can prevent your fridge from performing at its peak performance. Unlevel refrigerators can cause temperature fluctuations that could lead to food spoilage.
Unlevel refrigerators could cause your doors not to close properly, or the door switches not to actuate. There are also possibilities of moisture problems and frost accumulation on the evaporator coils, hindering heat removal. You can also consult our fridge troubleshooting manual if you are experiencing other issues.
Problems With A Refrigerator Not Properly Leveled
If your refrigerator isn’t leveled properly, it might need to work extra hard to keep perishables safe.
Refrigerators work by pushing a special liquid called coolant through a loop. This pulls heat from the fridge’s interior as it transforms from liquid to gas. This reverses the process, pushing heat out of the fridge’s back.
The fridge must not be tilted in any way. The coolant could pool in the pipes and make the fridge less efficient.
A tilted refrigerator could indicate that your fridge uses more energy than necessary, even though you may not be aware of it.
The ice maker might not work properly, and the freezer defrost cycles, or main refrigeration cabinets may not drain as expected.
What You’ll Need To Start
It’s easy to get started, but you will need additional people and tools to complete this task safely.
- Manual for the owner
The model of your refrigerator will determine the specifics of what you need to level it. Consult your owner’s manual for details. You can search here for the manual of your Maytag.
How To Level A Refrigerator In 4 Steps
STEP 1: Remove The Grille/Kick Plate
First, remove the kick plate or grille to level your refrigerator. You may need a screwdriver depending on your model to remove the screws located at the grille’s front. You may need to open your refrigerator doors at an angle of 90° before you can remove the grille.
After the screws are removed, place your hands on each side of the grille and pull toward you. Your model will have specific instructions. Refer to your manual for more information. It should be left aside until the fridge is leveled.
STEP 2: Locate The Refrigerator’s Leveling Legs Or Rollers
You will find adjustable rollers or leveling legs depending on the refrigerator model. These are located on the opposite side of the fridge from the kick plate or grille. For further assistance, refer to your owner’s manual.
STEP 3: Use Level To Determine How To Adjust The Height Of The Refrigerator
Place the level on the refrigerator top and measure from the front to the back and sideways to determine if you need to adjust the front leveling legs/rollers.
A wrench will be required to lower or raise your refrigerator if it has leveling legs. To do this, make sure that the refrigerator is back in its original location. You can’t move until the leveling legs have been adjusted down.
You will need a different size wrench, so make sure to check your manual. You may need a screwdriver if your refrigerator has adjustable rollers.
Notice: Freestanding refrigerators that need to be tilted forward will require you to add shims under the rear end of your fridge. Most freestanding refrigerators don’t have adjustable legs at the rear.
